Dr. Joseph N. Holmes M.D., has been in the practice of Internal Medicine since July 1989, and was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1990. He grew up in West Texas where he received his M.D. degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences School of Medicine in
1986, and completed his Internship and Residency requirements at Charlotte Memorial Hospital (Now Carolinas Healthcare System) in 1989. He has practiced in Salisbury, NC since 1995.
Although he has been assisting patients to lose weight for many years, “Weigh-To-Go” was organized in 2005 as a health and prevention-based program, grounded in the knowledge that the process of becoming healthy causes weight loss naturally, but also knowing that this process takes time and usually requires at least temporary medication use.
We specialize in losing body fat and optimizing the lean body health. Many programs can cause weight loss by across-the-board calorie restriction, but our focus is on selective restriction along with selective increases in certain foods.
By optimizing health of the lean body (“fat-free body mass”) the metabolic rate is increased, and body fat burns off naturally. We use injectables such as HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin), Lipotropics (Vitamin B12 and “LIPOplex”), and we use appetite suppressant/stimulants to help curb unhealthy cravings enabling compliance with a healthy diet, while giving the body time to increase metabolism, restore lean body mass to normal, and reduce unnatural cravings for bad foods. These are always used as a supplement to weight loss, but most of our patients actually lose weight by eating MORE food, rather than LESS.
David Russell MD is a native North Carolinian, having grown up in neighboring Montgomery County. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill receiving two degrees, Bachelor of Arts in Zoology and Psychology. He conducted research there as well for two years, also working on improving clinical laboratory testing in multiple areas of endocrinology, serving as a volunteer on the local Orange Country rescue squad. In 1976 he attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, receiving in Doctorate in Medicine in 1980.
During that time he conducted clinical medical research. His postgraduate work was in Internal Medicine and Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia, and conducted clinical research at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston Massachusetts. Dr Russell returned to North Carolina after that time and served in underserved rural areas as an Emergency Physician, becoming a charter member of the Amercian Academy of Urgent Care Physicians.
He has served in various posts since that time, having vast experience in Urgent Care and Family Medicine, having supervised a physician assistant in his hometown of North Carolina, served as an Urgent Care Physician for 25 years, and becoming a charter member of the new American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine and earning his diplomate status in the American Board of Urgent Care Medicine. Dr Russell has a vast wealth of clinical experience and knowledge which he brings to our practice, and he is now a member in good standing of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, specializing in weight loss. We are pleased to now have him on our staff.
